The Show Must Go On: Koenigsegg Jesko

And on it goes with this incredible feat of engineering...

In playwriting there are tragedies and comedies. Comedies don't necessarily mean there is humor and laughter, instead it means there is a positive ending. As for tragedies, the story ends differently and negatively. That being said, "It takes a tragedy to make a comedy."

Those are words my middle-school teacher taught me when reading Romeo and Juliet. Just as the Montagues and Capulets went through a terrible tragedy in losing their children, it brought them a light at the end of the tunnel. The families set aside their differences and came together; a positive, comedic ending.

"What does this have to do with the Jesko?"

Well...I'm glad you asked.

After Koenigsegg's first location burned in a fire, a new location was needed. Although tragedy struck, it did not determine the fate of the company. Instead, Christian von Koenigsegg found a new home and was able to turn his, and the first Swedish Air Force Squadron's, tragedy into a comedy. This new home came from the unfortunate closing of Squadron 1, but the spirit lives on.

The Squadron was known for flying early in the morning out of sight and landing after dark, leaving those around the base to believe they were ghosts, heard and felt, but never seen. This is where Koenigsegg's ghost comes in. As the Squadron left their facility they trusted that Christian would carry on their insignia in some form as their slogan was "the show must go on" and on it goes...with this.

Named after Christian's biggest supporter, the new Koenigsegg Jesko is named after Christian's very own father.

Having such an important name meant that this car needed to push the boundaries further than ever before, something that Christian is not a stranger to.

Equipped with a twin turbo 1600 horsepower V8, the insanity is not over. This car has what Koenigsegg is calling LST. Light Speed Transmission is a multi-clutch, 9 speed paddle shifted transmission that will not only shift faster than the DCT's in cars today, but also jump up or down up to 5 gears away. This means that while the typical DCT transmission will have to go from 6th to 5th to 4th, to then get on power, this transmission will skip from 8th to 3rd if need be in the blink of an eye. This saves time and maximizes the usage of the powerband in the Jesko.

And if you thought its ingenuity ends there, you are very wrong.

With the creation of the Agera, Koenigsegg developed a dampening system known as Triplex suspension. This allows for a third, horizontal damper to be used in the rear of the vehicle to support the amount of downforce being generated and also absorb jolts without upsetting the vehicle making it incredibly stable.

Being that the Jesko is more powerful and now more aerodynamic, producing over 1000 kilos of downforce on the vehicle when at speed, Koenigsegg brought its Triplex suspension to the front of the vehicle too!

With variable front and rear steering, handling on the Jesko will be an animal in the corners. High speeds will not hold this vehicle back for anything, as a matter of fact, it is believed that this may be the first vehicle to hit 300 miles per hour. With the help of its insane aerodynamics, the Koenigsegg Jesko proves that the show is continuing with the greatest tribute a son like Christian could have to his father.

Unveiled at Koenigsegg of Florida during Super Car Saturday, an event held every second Saturday of the month in Broward county, the Jesko made its presence known and we cannot wait to see when they hit the streets of sunny Miami, Florida.
